We, the volunteers of the project, extend our deepest sympathies to the
families and friends of these Canadian soldiers who have sacrificed their
lives for peace and freedom, recently, in Afghanistan.

Le Projet de l’Héritage de la Feuille d’Erable a la mission énorme de procurer une photographie de chacune des tombes de guerre canadiennes de la guerre d’Afrique du Sud (1899-1902), la Grande Guerre (1914-18), la deuxième guerre mondiale (1939-45), la guerre de Corée (1950-52), et toutes les opérations de maintien de la paix des Nations Unies jusqu’à présent.

Ces photographies seront mises à la disposition, gratuites, au grand public par un site Web sur Internet. On espère également avoir des kiosques interactives à écran à contact aux sites historiques importants à travers le pays pour qu’un visiteur de ces sites, par exemple, la Chambre des communes, le Musée canadien de la guerre, et les assemblées législatives provinciales et territoriales puisse rechercher une photo d’une tombe de guerre et en imprimer une copie sur place. De cette manière on aimerait créer une cimetière virtuelle de guerre nationale pour que les milliers des parents et descendants des Canadiens morts sur le champ de bataille, pour lesquels une visite réelle de la tombe en question n’est peut-être pas possible à cause des grandes distances, puissent au moins voir une photographie de la tombe et son inscription.

Le Projet de l’Héritage de la Feuille d’Erable se réalise par des Canadiens, pour des Canadiens, avec l’aide de plusieurs nations. C’est une véritable coopération internationale.

It appeals to the memory of the fallen, and to the courage of those who, by their deaths, have been unable to tell their stories.
